From a young age I was intrigued with creating ways to make money. I always wanted to be an entrepreneur and I knew starting a real business was in my future.
I learned a great deal from my Dad. He was a door-to-door Kirby vacuum cleaner salesman and he would take me with him on sales calls. I remember him telling me not to be discouraged when customers slammed the door in our faces. He would say "Son, that is just the nature of the sales business." It taught me not to give-up.
Growing up, I experienced many different kinds of jobs and tried various business ventures. One venture was my auto rehabilitation business. While in high school, friends and family would give me old cars which didn't run. Those I was actually able to get running I would sell - sometimes for a profit. If I remember correctly, I had 13 cars before I got out of high school.
My eyes were opened to the importance of business management and accounting after going into a business partnership. After returning home from the Air Force, I got a job with an old family friend and after working for a while, he asked if I wanted to become his partner. I was very excited with the prospect of going into my own business, so I agreed. Unfortunately, the business never really took off but I became acutely aware of how difficult it is to run a small business. That experience helped me understand that having knowledge of business management and how accounting and taxes work is very important.
In 1982, I returned to college graduating in 1985 with a BA in Business Management with emphasis in Accounting. After graduation, I worked for a large regional accounting firm where I acquired extensive experience in tax preparation and tax planning for individuals, partnerships, corporations, trusts and estates. I also gained significant experience in accounting, financial statement preparation and business consulting.
Armed with this experience, I started my own CPA firm in 1991. Since then, we have focused on tax preparation, researched tax issues to solve complex problems and presented ways for clients to save money through strategic tax planning. We also provide QuickBooks consulting, accounting and bookkeeping services, financial statement preparation and payroll all with the goal to exceed our clients' expectations while providing value well in excess of the investment.
